PLEASE NOTE: The correct care must be taken to preserve the product
When the need arises to clean your aluminium heat exchanger, the following should be noted:
- Do not use Caustic Soda for cleaning of your ALUMINIUM heat exchanger.
- Use recognized aluminium cleaner which is readily available in spare shops and follow guidelines described on product.
- A light solution of muriatic acid (31.5% diluted hydrochloric acid) can be used for a quick wash with a multi-step water rinse thereafter to remove the cleaning solution immediately.
PLEASE NOTE: Take care in selecting the correct anti-freeze (or coolant supplement) for your cooling system. It is of utmost importance to the lifespan of the aluminium heat exchanger that one uses a reputable anti-freeze.
IF IT’S CHEAP, THERE IS MOST LIKELY A REASON FOR IT.
Quality anti-freeze has at least 30% ethylene glycol (or concentrated coolant). Poor quality anti-freeze will contaminate the radiator and engine-block by promoting scale formation. Do not mix brands or types of anti-freeze.
Radiator Kings has high-quality anti-freeze and can be acquired from the warehouse (No. 5 Dingle Road, Belvedere, Harare).
Electrolysis is detrimental to your aluminium heat exchanger. Even very low amperage will cause pitting of the aluminium.
You have made the correct choice by purchasing an aluminium heat exchanger made in Africa, for Africa. This long lasting product will be problem free for many years if treated correctly as per the guidelines above.
It is advisable to have your radiator fitted by professionals. We do have a fully operational and professional radiator shop that will gladly assist in this regard. Professional fitment will affect the validity of any warranty claims. Should you wish to do fitment yourself or have it done, please follow the instructions set out below.
- The vehicle must be turned off and the parking brake engaged. Leave the vehicle (engine) to cool down.
- Remove the radiator cap. Please do not remove the radiator cap when the engine is still hot.
- Position a drain pan under the radiator. Open the drain plug so the coolant can come out of the radiator. It no drain plug is present, open the lower hose clamp and loosen the hose from radiator pipe.
- Once the coolant has drained; disconnect all hoses (may include the transmission lines or overflow tube to coolant tank/both). Remember to keep the hose ends and cooler line fittings clear.
- Free the radiator from the fan shroud by removing the mounting bolts
- Lift out the radiator. Make sure to keep all the parts in case they may be needed during installation of the new radiator.
- Place the new radiator carefully into position.
- Replace mounting bolts and tighten to fasten the fan shroud to the radiator.
- Connect the radiator hoses and tighten the clamps (connect transmission cooler lines and/or overflow tube).
- Ensure the drain plug is closed (if one is present).
- Fill the radiator with the correct mixture of clean water and the car manufacturer’s suggested coolant/anti-freeze.
- Start the engine and bring it up to normal operating temperature.
- Turn off the engine then check the coolant level and add some extra (if required).
- Close the radiator cap then remove the drain pan, disposing of the old coolant in an environmentally friendly manner.
- After a week of driving, open the bonnet and inspect cooling system, especially the coolant level, making sure it’s all working.
Heads Up On Radiators Warranty is simple
- Flush and repair jobs = No Guarantee, as these are usually the old and used radiators, which we will be working on. Flushing entails cleaning the radiators or heat exchangers without them being subjected to the rigorous process of a full reconditioning job.
- Recondition Jobs = 6-month Guarantee, this is a full service to the radiator and usually gives conclusive evidence of the strength of the radiator and its projected lifespan in the future.
- New Radiator new parts and Recore = 1 year Guarantee
Please note that some radiators can become weaker after full reconditioning, and on these, the 6-month warranty does not apply as they may need replacement shortly.
PLEASE NOTE
Most troubles are usually with the flush and repair jobs. We professionally recommend Routine Flushing to Stronger radiators and replacement of weaker Radiators.
